DROPPED by Louis Nixon
In the exhibition DROPPED, the Hong Kong-based British artist Louis Nixon is showing four new works, made in Hong Kong. These include Off-Earth (film, 2015-21), Table Series 1-24 (installation, 2021), Drifting (film, 2021), and Re-materialize (installation, 2021).
Having graduated from the School of Painting at Chelsea School of Art (1984-1987) and completed postgraduate sculpture at the Slade between 1987-1989, Nixon began his artistic career. His work pushes forward experiments in expanded sculpture produced during the Nineteen Sixties, producing kinetic sculptures, sound works, films, and paintings. He explores the world around us and what it means to be defined within and by space. Space is flooded constantly by electromagnetic energy. Virtually everything in space is in motion. This energy is also central to the concept of gravity, an invisible force that pulls objects toward each other. Gravity is what keeps you on the ground and what makes things fall. The closer objects are to each other, the stronger their gravitational pull.
